Progress Update - Miranda has a Singapore Birth Certificate!

Update on the Singapore adoption finalization process:

1. The Singapore Court granted the adoption order on July 13, 2007. This means we now have full custody of Miranda as our daughter, and her name shall be changed from Xu Ming Jing to Miranda Grace Leong Ming Hui.

2. Birth Certificate Issued on July 20, 2007. After my 9am appointment yesterday, I collected Miranda's birth certificate (issued in Singapore) that states her place of birth (China) and her parents (Leong Jin Fye / Tan May Yun) - that's us!!

I was asked what her time of birth was, before they issued her birth certificate. I looked puzzled, and stated that it was unknown. I was then told that it was a field in her birth certificate that needed to be completed. After some thought, it was decided that we would leave it as 00:00 (instead of some fictitious time)

Next Steps:
Citizenship Application - Submitted on Friday, it will be approved within the next 10 days, and then we can proceed to the next step, applying for a Singapore Passport.

Once she gets her passport, she will technically have dual citizenship, holding both Chinese and Singapore passports. Interestingly, they will be under different names. Her Chinese citizenship will lapse when her PRC passport expires. When she turns 21, she will be required to take an oath again to revalidate her Singapore citizenship.
